The local area offers a fabulous range of leisure activities and we have highlighted a few below.
Walking
What can be more peaceful than a leisurely stroll through the adjacent Auchmore woods? This is a lovely circular walk right on the doorstop which can (if required) include a refreshment stop at the local inn. There are quite a few circular walks around Killin and many more further afield. Details are available in the apartments.
Munro bagging
If you’re looking for something a bit more energetic, you’re in the right place. Within a 20 mile radius there are 35 munros. (A Munro is a Scottish term for a hill over 3000 feet in height). Indeed you only have to look out the window of your apartment to see not one, but 5 Munro’s.
Cycling
The National Cycle Network, Sustrans has created two cycle routes which can be easily accessed within a mile of the Auchmore self catering apartments. Route 40 runs through the stunning scenery of The Trossachs National Park and Route 7 is the Glasgow to Inverness path.
Watersports
There is a wide range of watersports available on the nearby rivers and on Loch Tay and Loch Earn. From your self catering apartment you may well see people enjoying fishing trips, wind surfing, sailing excursions, kayaking and canoeing. Equipment for most watersports is available to hire in the local outdoor shop.
Killin Outdoor Centre & Mountain Shop are always happy to give local advice and information on the outdoor activities within the Killin area. They also hire out equipment including canoes, ski's, kayaks and mountain bikes and stock a wide range of quality outdoor equipment, clothing and accessories.
Flora and fauna
The Local National Trust Nature Reserve is located on Ben Lawers and the Trust organise a number of events throughout the year for nature
enthusiasts. Events include mountain plant identification, games and activities for children, arctic-alpine flower walks and hillside safaris.
Golf
Killin is fortunate to have a thriving and well maintained 9 hole golf course with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside which is open to visitor. Equipment hire and buggy’s are available and the club house offers a range of refreshments throughout the day.
Distillery Tours
There is a number of Whisky distilleries to visit within an easy drive from Killin.
Gold panning
Perthshire is a magnet for gold panning enthusiasts and there are organised trips to local rivers where gold has been found. Whether you’re a seasoned expert or a novice, including a gold panning excursion in your holiday may see you returning home with an interesting souvenir.
